Loyalton approves $60,000 payment to fire department; chief urges wildfire vigilance

The Loyalton City Council voted unanimously on June 17, 2025 to approve a payment of $60,000 to the Fire Department. The motion to approve the payment was moved by Councilmember S. Mcllravy and seconded by J. Markum and carried without opposition.
Assistant Fire Chief DeMartini told the council the department has handled 83 calls so far this year and that Loyalton sent eight firefighters to the Forest Service RT130 wildland fire and chainsaw course. He urged residents to remain vigilant during wildland-fire season, asked that letters be sent to owners of overgrown lots, and stated that "No Fire Works be allowed."
