O'Brien County Compensation Board recommends 4%–8% raises for elected officials; supervisors take no action

The O'Brien County Compensation Board presented recommended pay increases for Fiscal Year 2027 to the Board of Supervisors on Jan. 6, 2026. Rich Vander Werff, chair of the Compensation Board, and Denise Steffen, vice chair, laid out the proposal: County Supervisors, Auditor, Recorder and Treasurer — 4% each; County Attorney — 6%; County Sheriff — 8%.
The record shows the Board of Supervisors reviewed the recommendation but "took no action on the recommendation at this time." The Compensation Board recommended any approved increases would begin July 1, 2026. No motion to adopt the recommended increases was recorded during the meeting; supervisors indicated the item would be considered later according to the agenda changes made at the start of the session.
