Jill Scheer, the district's representative to the Niles Township District for Special Education (NTDSE) Governing Board, updated the board on special education capacity and program developments.
She described three possible solutions to the classroom space shortage and reported that the recommendation favored the third option, which would discontinue the high school program at Molloy. Scheer said NTDSE Executive Director Tarin Kendrick and seven district directors will interview firms to complete a special education audit. She also summarized upcoming purchased services meetings, Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations beginning March 2026 (NTDSE CBA expires Aug. 2026), legislative items including SB3606 on Equalized Special Education Funding and pending paraprofessional licensure, and professional development such as WIDA modules for ACCESS training. Scheer noted several implementation items: two CFC literacy leaders are beginning the next phase of the pilot curriculum; every student now has a Google Slides presentation for IEP meetings; Toys for Tots was scheduled at Molloy on Dec. 11; and recent paramedic-program interns completed rotations at Molloy.
The board received the update; no board vote on the recommended option was recorded in the minutes.
