The Village Board approved an ordinance granting a conditional use permit for outdoor storage and a site-plan amendment for American United Mechanical Technology at 500 Earl, and waived the second reading. Economic Development Director Natalie Engel said the Shorewood site will "not be involved in any of the manufacturing. They'll basically receive, store, repackage, and ship spare parts to vendors," and that staff expects about "6 to 12 people between 8AM and 5PM."
Engel described the proposed outdoor storage area, the 10-foot wood-composite fence with metal posts and that stored materials would sit on asphalt in racks up to 10 feet high. Trustees questioned fence height, truck sizes (staff said shipping containers will arrive by rail and be transferred to full-size semis), and adjacent land uses; staff noted the site backs up to industrial areas and any expansion of the l-shaped lot would return to the board for review. The ordinance passed by roll call after a motion and second.
