Shorewood OKs certificate to join Illinois rock-salt purchasing program; staff plans to order ~2,500 tons

The Village Board authorized Shorewood to participate in the Illinois Department of Transportation's joint purchasing program for road salt for the 2026–27 season. Public Works Director Mr. Noriega told trustees the village budgeted $250,000 for the purchase and that "our salt dome is nearly empty. We hold about 3,000 tons. We intend to order approximately 2,500 tons this upcoming winter season."
Noriega explained the joint program requires a certificate of authority so the village can indicate how many tons it expects to need; the final contract later in the year will honor minimum and maximum ordering flexibility (80%–120% of the amount indicated). A trustee moved to approve the certificate and the board adopted the authorization by roll-call vote.
