Board names Faryal Otto as Highland Elementary principal; transition activities planned

Following the consent agenda the board announced its selection of Ms. Faryal Otto as the next principal of Highland Elementary School.
The superintendent described Otto as an assistant principal at Old Orchard Junior High with over a decade of experience in District 68 and said the district will host transition events so families, students and staff can meet the principal‑elect. The superintendent and Otto emphasized a commitment to cultural responsiveness, equity and inclusion in Highland’s leadership.
The district said Otto’s official start date in the role will be July 1, 2026, and that additional opportunities for community engagement will be scheduled in the weeks ahead.
