Skokie SD 68 seeks new hires tied to Early Childhood Center expansion and to convert some purchase services to employees
Summary
District leaders told the board they plan to add roughly 18 staff over two years — including bilingual and special‑education roles and a full‑time custodian for the new ECC — and said converting some NTDSC purchase services to in‑house positions could improve continuity; they cited roughly $650,000 in last‑year purchases from NTDSC.

Superintendent Brenz asked the board to approve additional staffing tied to the district’s Early Childhood Center (ECC) expansion and to convert some outsourced services into district positions.
Brenz said the district added eight positions last year and is proposing to add 1.5 positions now and roughly 18 positions over two years to support language‑related services, special education and related services. He cited specific needs at the ECC — a psychologist, an additional pre‑K teacher, a health clerk and a full‑time custodian — and requested converting part‑time contracted roles to full‑time district roles where feasible.
On contracting, Brenz noted the district purchased "for a little less than $650,000" in services from NTDSC last year and said converting some of that work in‑house could improve relationship building and continuity with students and families. Board members asked about floating versus home‑base assignments for converted positions and about phasing ECC enrollment to ensure fiscal and programmatic stability.
The board directed staff to continue refining the staffing plan and said a formal purchase‑services agreement with Niles Township would be presented for approval in March.
