Board hears ED-RED legislative updates, NTDSE staff recognitions and first readings of multiple policies

Shira Roth, the Board's ED-RED representative, briefed members on recent state-level legislative issues and ED-RED priorities, including proposed limits on student cell phone use in schools, Tier Two pension amendments, and updates to K–2 discipline regulations. The ED-RED report also encouraged districts to adopt resolutions addressing financial-impact accountability for state policies.
Jill Scheer reported nominations of District 68 staff for Friends of NTDSE recognition, naming Denise Negron-Crespo, Sarah Johnson, Jessica Lustyk, Pete Matalas, Polly McClellan and David Wiviott. Administration also presented first readings of numerous Board policies for future consideration, including curriculum development and content, gifted program, English learners, attendance and truancy, bullying and harassment, student behavior and student records. The minutes list policy numbers and titles but do not include final board action on any of the first readings.
