Skokie SD 69 considers $4M life‑safety bond to update 21 Edison classrooms in Summer 2026

At the Dec. 5 subcommittee meeting, Mr. George Demarakis of Arcon Architects said the District has identified 21 Edison classrooms that “require HVAC, lighting, flooring, and cabinetry updates” and that the District’s goal would be to address those needs in Summer 2026. Financial advisers suggested funding the work through a potential $4 million Life Safety bond issuance projected for February 2026.
Demarakis cautioned that Life Safety work at both Edison and Madison should be planned with the Master Facility Plan in mind because an anticipated addition and renovation at Madison could affect some of the same areas the short‑term work would change. The subcommittee discussed phasing and the balance between making spaces operational in the short term and avoiding costly work that may be removed in a later renovation.
