Linwood students present three pillars of dual language immersion to Novato board

Linwood Elementary Principal Lauren Menchavez told trustees she was proud of the school's dual language immersion program and introduced two fifth-grade students to describe its three pillars.
"Bilingualism and biliteracy helps students read and write in languages such as English and Spanish," student Natalie Baranowski said in her prepared remarks. Another student, Emily Macedoque, translated and reinforced that the program aims to prepare students academically and culturally for a multilingual future.
Menchavez emphasized that the program integrates languages across subjects (math, science, art and social studies) and that students who complete the program have expanded opportunities. The board thanked the presenters and invited students on stage for a picture.
