Magistrate orders beachfront property to end turtle‑season lighting and complete repairs

The special magistrate found evidence that a resort rental at 812 South Fletcher had artificial lighting visible from the beach that could interfere with sea‑turtle nesting and also documented exterior deterioration and window/door maintenance issues. Code Officer Crystal Rimes presented night‑time and day‑time inspection photos and asked the magistrate to require immediate correction of the lighting and additional time for other repairs.
Magistrate Harrison Poole ordered compliance for the lighting by Aug. 7 and set a $250 daily fine that would run through Oct. 31, 2026 if the lighting is not corrected; for the remaining exterior maintenance violations he ordered compliance by Sept. 7 and set a $150/day fine to begin Sept. 8 if the violations persist. Rimes told the hearing that the lighting "is visible from the beach, allowing the artificial lighting to project towards the nesting habitat on the beach." The city was awarded administrative costs of $141.96 and the magistrate will issue a written order.
