Selectboard authorizes VTRANS grant acceptance; paving bids opened with Whitcomb lowest

The Town of Fairfield Selectboard on May 11 authorized Town Administrator Cathy Ainsworth to sign VTRANS grant agreements to accept a $191,496 paving grant and a $200,000 Structures Grant for a North Road culvert replacement. Tom Howrigan moved to authorize the signatures and the motion passed unanimously.
Cathy Ainsworth opened and reviewed bids for Project Option 2. The board recorded five bids: Whitcomb $313,305.72; SD Ireland $332,010.00; Hungerford $325,956.00; Pike $320,916.60; and AllStates $393,955.50. "Whitcomb appears to be the low bidder," the board noted; bids will be fully reviewed and any award will be made at the next Selectboard meeting. David Davio of Pike Industries reminded the board that Pike "warranties their work for one year."
