Low signups put Huber Heights 3-on-3 tournament at risk; youth entries made free

Commission organizers reported on Aug. 6 that registration for a community 3-on-3 basketball tournament remained far below targets and that organizers may cancel the event to avoid wasting city funding.
A task-group member said the competition needs eight teams per category and estimated 24–30 teams total; at the time of the update only one team had signed up. "If we don't get the teams, I don't think that we should waste the funding in doing it," the organizer said. To boost participation, the commission approved waiving fees for youth categories and set a $200 adult entry fee for the adult prize division.
Organizers reviewed outreach tactics: a revised flyer, yard signs and heavier social media advertising were planned immediately, and staff sought sponsors to help attract participants. Commissioners discussed changing messaging to emphasize a "back-to-school" theme to attract families and suggested reaching out to area teams to appear at the event even if they did not compete. The commission said it would reassess registrations over the next week and decide whether to proceed.
