The board approved a grant agreement to accept a US Soccer Foundation mini pitch at Loma Verde Elementary.
Staff described the project as a 50-foot by 74-foot synthetic mini pitch to be installed through the Safe Places to Play program, funded by the US Soccer Foundation with MetLife as a named benefactor. "The mini pitch itself is 50 foot by 74 foot," staff stated, adding that the grant covers all project expenses and includes a 10-year warranty. The installation includes fencing, benches, and a light system; staff confirmed the light height is under 25 feet and therefore not subject to DSA light standards.
The application was submitted in October 2025 by the YMCA on behalf of Loma Verde; the district received notice of award in February 2026. Staff noted some in-kind district responsibilities for electrical and site prep and said the district will submit a CEQA exemption notice at the next board meeting. Installation is estimated 10 to 12 weeks after final scope approval, with on-site assembly taking three to four days weather permitting.
Trustees approved the grant agreement by voice vote "7 with 1 student advisory vote." Staff said project materials include branding (Loma Verde, MetLife, US Soccer and Novato Unified logos) and that the district will manage the local permits and site preparation.
