MEDC reports stronger business-retention activity and outlines Innovation Exchange

The MEDC reported an uptick in business-retention (BRE) activity during the July 28 session, saying it had completed 96 visits this fiscal year against a goal of 80. Mike Kalski credited the systems and processes put in place by prior staff and singled out Economic Development Specialist Miranda Estrada for driving BRE momentum: "Our goal for business retention visits was 80 this year... We're already at 96 this year," he said.
Kalski also described the Innovation Exchange, a physical office next to MEDC’s headquarters intended to support startups as they grow. He said the initiative complements attraction work and that MEDC’s travel with Texas EDC has helped promote McKinney to larger Texas markets. The presentation emphasized that BRE and local startup support are central to MEDC’s "grow" and "innovate" pillars.
