The McKinney Economic Development Corporation told the City Council and its own board on July 28 that it has engaged Newmark to update the city’s strategic economic development plan and is targeting a September draft and graphic deliverables by December to support implementation in 2027. Mike Kalski, presenting for the MEDC, said the outreach approach will lean on one-on-one interviews with stakeholders rather than group roundtables and that "we're gonna pivot instead of in person round tables. We'll go ahead and do some 1 on 1 interactions."
Kalski also reported MEDC performance against council-set targets: "Our goal...was at least 90 leads this fiscal year, 25 qualified. We're already at 184 leads, 79 being qualified," he said. He described a roughly 10-person team managing the pipeline and noted MEDC has completed about a dozen interviews with business leaders to date. The presentation emphasized resilience and optionality in planning, and MEDC said it will funnel interested companies to local staff or to adjacent jurisdictions via a standalone corridor website to speed property selection and recruitment.
