Board hears proposal to extend west parallel runway and expand west‑side development

In the master plan presentation, Ryan Adams said the airport is not proposing to lengthen the main runway but included an option to extend the west parallel runway by about 1,000 feet if demand justifies it.
"We are proposing potentially in our 20 year plan to extend our west parallel runway by about 1000 feet," Adams said, and noted doing so would allow larger aircraft that cannot safely operate on shorter runways to use the parallel runway. Adams added the main runway could be strengthened rather than lengthened to accommodate heavier aircraft.
Adams also described a need for additional taxi lanes to allow west‑side development to connect apron and ramp areas to the runway. He told the board much of the adjacent west‑side land is city‑owned, which he said would simplify assembling the parcels needed for future projects if and when market demand arrives.
Board members asked about timing and prioritization; staff said runway extension and major pavement work are mid‑to‑long‑term priorities and will be considered alongside FAA eligibility and potential private investment.
