Police chief outlines plan to join combined SRT with Jacksonville PD; board to vote in June

Police Chief Eric Hansell told trustees he is still discussing South Jacksonville participation in a combined Special Response Team (SRT) with the Jacksonville Police Department. Chief Hansell said the SRT would operate in Morgan and Cass counties, that no more than two South Jacksonville officers would be on the team, and that testing for team members is scheduled for the end of May.
Chief Hansell said the Board will need to vote on participation in June. Trustees asked for additional details and flagged the item for a future formal vote; no formal decision was made at the March 6 meeting.
