The Village of South Jacksonville Board of Trustees on March 6 approved monthly payables totaling $160,325.26, ratified meeting minutes from Jan. 9 and Jan. 23, and authorized two $5,000 Tourism Fund grants. Trustee Steve Retzer moved to approve the payables, Trustee J.W. Coleman seconded, and the roll call vote was unanimous.
The board also approved a $5,000 tourism grant to the Citizens Police Academy Alumni for a bass fishing tournament and a $5,000 grant to support a Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra bicentennial July 4 concert at Nichols Park. Susan Weller, an honorary member of the Symphony Board, told trustees that "a concert usually costs around $10,000" and said the Village's sponsorship would be recognized in event promotion. Trustees approved both grants by unanimous roll call. The board also agreed to schedule a Committee of the Whole meeting on March 20, 2025, at 6:30 p.m.
