McKinney council approves FY2027 CDBG and HOME funding recommendations

McKinney — City staff presented the draft FY2027 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME funding recommendations and council approved staff’s allocations after a short public hearing.
Shalita Best, community services administrator, reported the city will receive approximately $1,009,609 in CDBG funds and $374,215.62 in HOME funds for program year Oct. 1, 2026–Sept. 30, 2027. Recommended grantees included local nonprofits and city-administered programs — Casa of Collin County, Meals on Wheels of Collin County, the Samaritan Inn, the city’s rehabilitation program and others — subject to HUD review of the draft plan.
Council closed the public hearing and approved staff’s recommended awards. Staff said any funds remaining at year-end would be reallocated to eligible housing and community development projects and the city will open an additional funding round for nonprofits in the fall.
What’s next: The draft will be available for public comment through Aug. 22 and then submitted to HUD for review.
