Denton officials highlight FY24-25 accomplishments, point to strategic priorities

The Denton City Council on Tuesday received a presentation summarizing the city's fiscal 2024'25 accomplishments and the work being tracked under six council key-focus areas.

Amy Casleg, chief strategic officer, opened the work session with a video and slides that framed achievements across organizational excellence, infrastructure and mobility, economic opportunity, community quality of life, health and safety, and sustainability. Casleg pointed to a string of performance metrics and one-line program highlights, including ADA improvements, traffic signal upgrades, a water treatment plant project at Lake Louisville, and new energy projects tied to battery storage and wind generation.

"The foundation for the city of Denton strategic plan is 6 long term key focus areas," Casleg said in her presentation, which staff said tracks more than 100 initiatives. She also told the council staff had implemented zero-based budgeting and launched Denton 311, a consolidated service access portal.

Council members praised the review while asking for more detail on items such as project timelines and the metrics that determine whether an initiative moves from "yellow" to "green." One council member pressed staff to explain why about 25'30% of initiatives still showed disruption; Casleg said the primary causes were resource constraints and external factors beyond the city's control.

The presentation will be posted to the city's strategic plan dashboard for public review; staff said additional follow-up materials and links would be circulated to council.
