Police Chief Eric Hansell presented a memorandum of understanding (MOU) opportunity for South Jacksonville officers to join a regional Special Response Team (SRT) that would operate across Morgan and Cass counties.
Hansell explained that an officer assigned to the SRT would be required to train one day per month and that the overtime costs associated with participation would be about $3,500. Morgan and Cass counties have already signed up and the SRT would include multiple agencies. Trustees asked about staffing logistics and liability; Hansell said participating officers would remain covered by the Village’s workers’ compensation for duty-related matters. The MOU requires officers to pass selection testing scheduled in May; no final commitment was recorded on Feb. 20.
