South Jacksonville reports 13 water main breaks; public works seeks to restore fourth employee

South Jacksonville Public Works Superintendent Brian English told trustees the department recorded 13 water main breaks in the prior month, including one that led to a boil order on a transmission line. "The water department had 13 main breaks last month one resulting in a boil order for the transmission line," English said, and he described continued pothole and post‑break repairs.
English also explained staffing fell to three employees while the water plant was down and said the department needs to return to four staff to operate effectively. President Richard Samples said the village is considering a local candidate. "The person we are looking to hiring has some experience and is a local kid. His name is Stone Lambie," Samples said. Trustees did not take formal action at the meeting but agreed to discuss staffing details at the Committee of the Whole on Feb. 20.
