Everett Beddingfield, president of the Jacksonville Citizens Police Academy (CPA) Alumni, requested a $5,000 tourism grant to start a bass tournament to raise funds for scholarships for individuals pursuing law enforcement or criminal justice.
Beddingfield said the alumni group supports village events including parades, the July 4th program, Safe Halloween and a 5K run. He introduced Glenn Robson, an experienced tournament organizer who said his network brings anglers who often arrive early and stay in local hotels. Beddingfield said the group hopes the tournament will eventually fund a $1,000 scholarship and a $500 scholarship the following year. Trustee Tom Luber agreed to place the item as an action item on the next meeting agenda.
Chief Eric Hansell praised the group’s work and said, “the CPA Alumni is a Godsend for the Village.” No formal grant award was made at the Feb. 20 meeting; trustees will consider the request at a future meeting when organizers provide additional logistics.
