Jennifer Reed, director of the Senior College program and director of corporate, professional and community education at Bridgewater State University, told a Halifax audience that the program began after sustained community requests and has expanded to offer dozens of courses both in-person and online.
Reed said the program launched in fall 2019 with eight courses and about 80 members, pivoted to Zoom during the COVID-19 pandemic, and now offers roughly 73 classes this fall with about 40 available by Zoom. "We offer scholarships no questions asked," Reed said, describing a $95 semester registration that allows members to take up to seven courses and a $15 fee for each additional class.
Reed emphasized accessibility and regional partnerships, noting classes are held on campus and at community sites including the Bridgewater Public Library, East Bridgewater Senior Center, Sandwich Senior Center and the Plymouth Center for Active Living. She encouraged attendees to join and said registration for returning members had begun the day before and that general-public registration opens the following day.
