Residents press board to curb fireworks as organizers, police discuss permits

Resident Darrell Williams urged the board to prohibit residents from shooting off fireworks, saying that years ago "he had multiple rockets on his roof and if it caught on fire, insurance wouldn’t cover the damage." He thanked Chief Bob Coles for enforcing restrictions on fireworks.
Resident Mike Davis said police presence was not needed for a fireworks event and that he had invited the village to participate. Trustee and Recreation Chair Terrah Bevolo contacted Mr. Davis about obtaining a temporary special-event permit. Chief Bob Coles offered to "review notes/drafts to find some common ground" with organizers to resolve permitting and safety concerns. Trustee Terry Chester later reminded organizers that Madison County requires a temporary food permit and pointed attendees to the Madison County Health Department website for compliance information.
