Parks committee previews May and June events; board backs Eagle Scout project
Summary
Parks Committee reported plans for multiple spring and summer events, a resident traffic complaint at Pierce Park, and board support for an Eagle Scout proposal to improve Hatchery Park entry and invasive shrub removal.
Parks Committee Chairperson Britt reported that staff and Public Works will begin park projects for the season. The board noted an upcoming Blanton Family/Pierce Park dedication on May 3 from noon to 2 p.m. and a Friends of the Hatchery family fun day on June 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; IDNR will be onsite to waive fishing license requirements for that event.
The Horse Fair Park re-siding will start in May and the volleyball court will be refreshed this year. The committee discussed a resident complaint about increased traffic at Pierce Park and a request to remove the pickleball screening; the board ultimately decided not to remove the screening. Eagle Scout George Wkrtney proposed a Hatchery Park project to upgrade the park entrance sign and remove invasive buckthorn along the north pond path; the board supported the project and Supervisor Frer and Trustee Britt will meet on site to discuss next steps.
