Jury approves rezoning at Palmetto Road for proposed child-care facility despite resident drainage concerns

The Bossier Parish Police Jury unanimously approved Ordinance No. 5122 to rezone a 1.0-acre tract at 4709 Palmetto Road from Residential-Agriculture to B-1 (Transition Business) to allow a proposed child-care facility.
Gene Sullivan, a nearby resident, told the jury he is "not opposed" to the rezoning but described drainage issues in the area, saying ditches have not been cut "in approximately 40 years" and that water from the street drains through Edwards Subdivision and holds in the back of the subject property. Assistant Parish Engineer Matt Redmon said he and Public Works Director Kevin Gay will inspect the drainage issues and noted community sewer service is available; he also said conversion to a new use may require tie-in to the community sewer if an individual system currently exists.
Following staff presentations and questions from jurors, a motion to approve the zoning amendment carried unanimously. The action is recorded as Ordinance No. 5122 (Benton MPC Case BP-11-26).
