Paul described a recent water service interruption that led to a boil‑water notice. A cap on an asbestos‑cement water line near the 4th‑and‑Park intersection cracked, allowing high‑pressure discharge and necessitating an overnight response from staff and the fire department. Crew members performed temporary work to restore water service; Paul said permanent fittings and full valve work would occur at the next scheduled shutdown. He also briefed the council on water‑tower work, saying valve repairs would begin soon, interior coating mid‑month and exterior coating to follow, targeting a return to full service by mid‑September.
Paul recommended adding more properly placed restraint joints and additional shutoff valves at intersections to reduce the need for town‑wide shutdowns during future projects. The council asked several operational questions about sequencing for the 4th Street water‑main work and the engineer confirmed contractors plan to complete a bore under the highway this week to connect new mains across the corridor.
