Council unanimously approves $200,000 RTP grant to build universal-access Riverlands trail

The City Council on Aug. 5 unanimously approved resolution 25-041 authorizing the mayor to accept a Recreational Trails Program grant and execute related agreements with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources to construct a universal-access segment of the Riverlands Trail. Economic development staff said the grant award is around $200,000 and will be used to advance the trail design and construction.
Director Chris Montesinos told the council the project has been under discussion for months and the RTP funds complement other local and regional trail efforts. "This is a 200,000 grant that the city was awarded late last year," Montesinos said during his presentation. Council members moved and seconded the resolution and the motion carried unanimously. The approved action authorizes the mayor to complete needed paperwork and enter contracts with state partners so construction can proceed as funds and matching resources are arranged.
