Austin Gillard, CEO of Clay County Medical Center (CCMC), told the board that two new general surgeons who are "both DaVinci trained" started today and that additional physicians — including Dr. Walters and emergency physician Dr. Hein — will begin next week. Gillard said the hospital had visits from U.S. Senators this week and is awaiting approval of a grant to purchase a DaVinci surgical robot, with an interactive demonstration and presentation planned for September if the grant clears.
Gillard also provided an update on mental-health services, telling the board the program is "steady" and that a transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) unit will be implemented in a few months. He confirmed that parking-lot work has not been completed and that CCMC is coordinating with KDOT to ensure the layout meets requirements.
Board members asked about mental-health progress and parking completion; Gillard answered with scheduling updates and a timeline tied to grant approval. The hospital's prospective robot purchase and the TMS unit would expand local specialty and behavioral-health capacity if the grant and procurement proceed.
