White Plains to add stop-arm cameras to all school buses, superintendent says

The White Plains City School District will have stop-arm cameras on all school buses starting the first day of the 2025–26 school year, Superintendent Joe Ricca said. "We will have stop arm cameras on all of our school buses in the White Plains City School District," he said, adding the equipment is intended to deter drivers from illegally passing stopped buses and to improve safety for students loading and unloading.
Ricca credited the board of education, the mayor and common council for helping enable the upgrade, and said the district's transportation provider, Durham School Services, will operate the systems. He warned that drivers who pass a stopped school bus when the stop arm is extended can receive tickets under existing traffic enforcement rules and said district staff and the transportation provider are practicing routes ahead of the first day.
