Local landlord offers studio suites and proposes central mentoring hub for Torrington entrepreneurs

A local property owner and developer described efforts to fill 18 studio suites and to use a 30,000-square-foot building as an incubator and hub for Market Street Creatives and other small businesses. The owner said many current tenants are from outside Torrington and that centralizing mentoring, SCORE office hours and resource links in the building could help hobbyists turn into sustainable businesses. "I've got 18 studio suites that I gotta fill that I'm looking to bring businesses in," the owner said.
Committee members discussed combining makerspace training with development training so early-stage entrepreneurs can scale and become tenants for larger production space. The owner suggested partnering with the chamber and SCORE and dedicating space for resources and promotion; members also raised zoning and parking as constraints that should be addressed to support these businesses.
