Board declares capital outlay Type II under SEQRA; superintendent says full Eden Elementary roof replacement may be possible this summer

The board approved a resolution (dated 03/19/2025) declaring the proposed Eden Elementary capital outlay project a Type II action under SEQRA and authorized including funding for the work in the 2025–26 budget.
During the superintendent’s report, district leadership said they are working with insurance adjusters and contractors to determine the scope of roof replacement work for Eden Elementary. The superintendent said the district is “waiting for NYSER's final decision on the scope of the roof replacement they will support” and that “there is a growing possibility that we'll be able to replace the entire roof this summer through a combination of insurance payments and the use of reserve funds.”
The superintendent cautioned that a final settlement amount is pending and that the EU roof cannot be addressed through the current project until the maximum cost allowance resets in 2028. They also said the combined scope (roof, auditorium plaster, stage flooring and other repairs) could amount to roughly $1.8 to $2.0 million based on preliminary estimates. The superintendent said the district may call an early meeting for board action if insurance and reserve determinations are finalized soon.
The board took the SEQRA resolution and informational superintendent update; no emergency project authorization was requested at the meeting.
