Business report: payroll hiring underway, taxes nearly fully collected, meal participation soars under free-meal program

A business-office representative reported the district is moving to hire an in-house payroll clerk after receiving 24 applicants; interviews were expected to finish the next day and a candidate chosen by week’s end.
On tax collection, the representative said district receipts rose to 97.7% of total taxes. On school meals, the district’s adoption of the Community Eligibility Provision produced large year-over-year increases: comparing September 2024 with September 2023, breakfast participation rose 186% and lunch participation rose 53%; October showed similar gains (breakfast +165%, lunch +52%). The business office also said prepackaged smoothies are already available in the elementary building and a salad bar will be introduced at the middle and high schools.
Board members asked whether students can purchase a la carte milk without taking a full meal; the business-office representative said she would check and report back.
