A member raised a question about whether Boxborough maintains a dedicated 'sidewalk fund' after the Planning Board discussed the topic; the committee asked finance staff to locate records and report back at the next meeting.
Stolpin asked, “Do we ever create a sidewalk fund?” and Neil replied that at multiple Planning Board meetings “we had people donate to the sidewalk fund,” adding that state grants have funded some past sidewalk construction and that the town typically funds design work from local sources. The Chair asked staff to locate any sidewalk-fund records and return with a status update for both the Finance Committee and the Planning Board. The committee also noted that Complete Streets grants may fund construction while the town may need to budget for engineering and design.
