The Boxborough Finance Committee voted unanimously to approve a $7,800 reserve fund transfer to cover emergency tree removal and stump grinding, citing trees damaged by beetles and woodpeckers that threatened nearby homes.
Chair said the transfer was for work that fell outside the operating budget and described the removals as unexpected. “We have 1 reserve fund transfer from the DPW, for tree removal and stump grinding,” the Chair announced when introducing the item. Committee members discussed whether replacement plantings would be budgeted separately and heard that replanting had not yet been scheduled. A staff member clarified the request covered only removal costs.
The committee moved and seconded the reserve fund transfer; Michelle Ryan, Stolpin, Neil and Newton voted in favor. The Chair recorded the vote as 4–0 and noted the administrative date associated with the paperwork. The committee agreed that any future replanting or related landscaping costs would be brought back for separate consideration.
