The Mendocino County Office of Education board voted to table approval of comprehensive school safety plans after staff said the contractor submitted the packet late and with site-specific errors.
Superintendent (S2) told the board that the plans arrived late and several items need correction before the March 1 state deadline, pointing to examples such as a missing school name on the Ore Creek plan. Chris Francis (S3), who the board asked to summarize site goals, noted site-level updates including suicide-prevention protocol additions, radio communications improvements and lock/handle changes at several sites. "We do need to have this approved by March 1," Superintendent (S2) said, but the board agreed it had not had adequate time to review the materials.
Marilyn (S4) moved to adopt item 4.2 with corrections earlier in the meeting; later the board moved to table item 4.4 (the safety plans) and set a special meeting for Feb. 24 to consider revised plans if needed. Chris Francis described planned changes (locks keyed to allow easier egress, radio channel standardization, and additional guardian-engagement efforts) and said revisions would be routed back through the site safety committee following board action. The motion to table carried by voice vote.
