Board pauses student representative selection after parent describes off-campus knife attack

Trustees expressed sympathy and said the allegation prompted them to pause action to develop clearer eligibility and student-led processes. Staff and trustees emphasized the need to preserve a student-led selection process while considering fairness and safety.
Trustees asked staff to review administrative regulations and options (eligibility, selection phases, student training and supports) and return with concrete suggestions. No formal policy change was adopted; the board will revisit the item at its next meeting.
