Commission OKs abolition of two finance IT posts, approves new IT systems manager promotion

The Saratoga Springs Civil Service Commission voted to abolish two finance-department positions and approved replacing them with titles aligned to current technical needs at its Sept. 25 meeting.
A deputy finance official told the commission the director position had been largely administrative while the new information technology systems manager title would encompass more hands-on technical responsibilities and higher minimum qualifications. The deputy said the IT systems manager title has existed in city job classifications since 1999 and that the director role was created more recently in May 2021.
Commissioner Jeff Altamari moved to approve abolition of the director of information technology and the information security analyst positions; the motion was seconded and approved. The commission also approved a provisional promotional appointment to the information technology systems manager title at the same meeting.
Commission members framed the action as an internal reorganization to match job titles and minimum qualifications to departmental needs; no external hires or budget changes were specified in the meeting record.
