Board approves West Hills calendar tweaks; CNA program space nearing completion

Trustees approved two small calendar changes affecting West Hills School and heard that the certified nursing assistant (CNA) program classroom remodel should finish by the end of the week ahead of a Dec. 17 grand opening.
Education staff requested two targeted changes to the 2025–26 MCOE instructional calendar specific to West Hills School: (1) leave Jan. 5 as a staff workday for Ore Creek and New Beginnings but not West Hills, and (2) remove the April 6 districtwide makeup day for West Hills because the program’s operating context at the juvenile facility makes the makeup day unnecessary. Trustees discussed the request and moved to approve the revised calendar for West Hills, which carried unanimously.
Business services staff reported that the CNA classroom remodel is expected to be complete by the end of the week and invited trustees to the CNA building grand opening on Dec. 17. Trustees also heard that the CNA program has begun and recently graduated a medical assistant cohort.
"We're looking forward to seeing that complete, I think, by the end of this week so that we're ready for the open house," the business services representative said.
