Board considers teacher raises, classified increases and possible substitute pay boost

Later the director estimated a 15% rise in substitute daily pay (from $150 to about $170) would cost around $250,000 across the lines that use substitutes and suggested leaving sub-line budgets unchanged and increasing pay now while monitoring spend through the year.
Board members asked whether unused budgeted sub-lines could accommodate a temporary increase and the director said it was feasible but might require tapping fund balance or reallocating funds if spending increased. The board directed staff to supply a total-dollar estimate for several substitute-pay options ahead of the next work session.
