Jordan Shirley addressed the board about her grandson Tucker's TCAP ELA performance and broader concerns with the state's testing system enacted in 2021. Shirley said Tucker had high benchmark scores yet was flagged for failing the state ELA portion and described an appeals process that ultimately succeeded with support from Tucker's Crossroads staff.
Shirley criticized the lack of transparency about test content and called for parity in testing requirements for private schools. A board member urged constituents to use the appeals process and noted the district stands ready to help parents. “We want our appeal. We want our appeal,” Shirley said repeatedly during her remarks.
