Mesquite ISD honors teachers, paraprofessionals and community partners at January meeting

At its Jan. 13 meeting, the Mesquite ISD Board of Trustees paused regular business to recognize teachers, paraprofessionals and community partners.
Sabrina Smith led a school-board appreciation segment that included presentations from the Mesquite Education Association and the library services department. Emma McDonald, Director of Library Services, said the district purchased a copy of Chasing Dreams for every campus with a dedication to the board. The board inducted Linda Howick (AP Calculus/Precalculus teacher at Mesquite High School) and Yesenia Perez (2nd‑grade bilingual teacher at Florence Elementary) into the district’s Apple Corps recognition program.
The meeting also honored Lori Lau as paraprofessional of the month; 1st Financial Group of America partnered to supply a gift card for the honoree. The board recognized Dallas Regional Medical Center for partnering on a bilingual baby book bag program and thanked the Mesquite Education Foundation; presenters noted the foundation has funded nearly $5,000,000 in grants since 2004.
Trustees and staff thanked honorees, noted student involvement in presenting gifts and praised the Education Foundation’s long-term support of MISD classrooms. These recognitions were presented as part of the meeting’s opening items and required no board action.
