Mesquite ISD board reconvenes, honors students and district staff

The Mesquite Independent School District Board of Trustees reconvened its April 14 meeting at 6:23 p.m. after a closed executive session. President Seward opened the public session with an invocation and led student-led pledges before the board moved into a series of recognitions.
Superintendent Dr. Rivera highlighted three finance-related honors for the district’s business department: the ASBO Meritorious Budget Award, the TASBO Award of Excellence in Financial Management (Mesquite ISD was one of 32 recipients) and a TASBO Award of Merit for Purchasing Operations (one of 80 recipients). He asked the finance and business staff to come forward for recognition and photographs.
Several student groups and individuals were honored. Galloway Elementary students led the pledges; the board thanked them for representing their campus. The board presented Apple Corps proclamations recognizing Jeanette Fennell of Cross Elementary and Rodrigo Ramirez Fernandez of Shaw Elementary as district Apple Corps teachers for April 2025. Both recipients offered brief remarks thanking colleagues, family and the board.
The board also recognized paraprofessional Tabitha Butler of Wilkinson Elementary with a Star Pair award in partnership with First Financial Group of America, and the Mesquite ISD Promise League as a community partner for supporting volunteer engagement across campuses.
The meeting record shows the board moved through the recognitions before taking personnel and business actions later in the agenda.
