The Mendocino County Office of Education board on Oct. 13 approved a 1.5% increase to the superintendent salary schedule effective Jan. 1, 2026, a one‑time off‑schedule payment of $2,000 paid in January 2026, and advancement of the superintendent to step 4.
"I move that we approve a 1.5 salary increase to the superintendent salary schedule effective 01/01/2026 and approve a 1 time payment of 2,000 off salary schedule paid in January 2026," a trustee said when making the motion. Trustees seconded the motion and approved it by roll call.
During the discussion trustees asked staff to provide additional fiscal detail and comparisons to classroom teacher pay before future adjustments. One trustee emphasized how percentage increases translate into different dollar amounts at higher salary levels, saying, "It means you get a much bigger raise than the teachers do." Staff agreed to return average teacher-salary figures and multi‑year cost projections for the board's review.
Board members also confirmed the one‑time payment and the 1.5% schedule adjustment mirror similar actions taken for other employees and that any change to benefits would follow the same policy treatment. The motion passed and was announced as approved by the chair.
