CDD to participate in multiagency storm surge resilience planning after modeling shows wide flooding risk

Pelican Sound General Manager Eric Long described an action plan to build resilience over the next five to ten years and asked the CDD to designate a Board representative and staff or engineering liaisons to coordinate a proposed advisory/review panel and interagency work. He suggested coordinating with county and state agencies and noted potential partnerships with nearby West Bay.
Long presented a hypothetical topographic analysis for a Hurricane Milton scenario and said a modeled 10'–12' storm surge "could have caused 45% to 55% of the community to be flooded." The Board agreed Mr. Long and newly seated Mr. Merrill will assist with the initiative and authorized District Engineer Charlie Krebs to provide support as necessary.
