The Alvarado ISD Board of Trustees voted 6–1 on Aug. 19 to adopt an ordinance setting the district property tax rate at $1.2869, a figure described during the motion as "effectively a 9.86 percent increase in the tax rate." Perry Burnett moved the ordinance and Hector Velazquez seconded; Dana Walraven cast the lone dissenting vote.
Board members present for the vote were Tom Head, Perry Burnett, Clifton McDaniel, Michael Pulaski, Jeff Taylor, Hector Velazquez and Dana Walraven. The motion to adopt the tax rate followed a public hearing earlier in the meeting on the district budget and proposed tax rate. The board did not record any public speakers during the open comment period.
The ordinance vote was part of a broader consent and action sequence that also included formal adoption of the 2024–25 budget and a final amendment to the 2023–24 budget. The motion language on the tax ordinance was entered into the record as "the property tax rate be increased by the adoption of a tax rate of $1.2869 which is effectively a 9.86 percent increase in the tax rate."
