Council President Bucci read Mayor Chau's report to the council and public, summarizing recent interagency meetings and items under consideration for cost control and capital planning.
Bucci said the mayor met with ACUA representatives and reviewed 2025 collected tonnage for waste and recycling. Bucci read the mayor's summary of potential changes under review: "We discussed the possible plan to (a) future purchase of both waste and recycling bins for our residents, (b) discontinue the pickup of recycling materials from businesses, and (c) collect yard waste on Saturdays only." The minutes show the items were presented as options under consideration to address rising costs of recycling pickup for businesses.
Bucci also read that the mayor and council members conferred with Chief Pollak about setting an interview date to hire a prospective patrolman; the mayoral report recommended the hiring of Frank Gabriel and noted a resolution on the agenda to approve his employment. Separately, the mayor's report said the city met with a representative of HESP solar company, contracted by Atlantic County, to explore a similar solar agreement for city facilities; Bucci read: "The contract will not cost taxpayers any money for the purchase and installation of these units, as it is through a solar agreement." The mayor said he would contact the county to learn how the county structured its RFP.
The report also flagged potential 2026 capital requests for a drone and replacement radar units for police; Chief Pollak was asked to discuss those items with the CFO. The mayoral comments were delivered as a read statement; the items appear to be under study and no council vote on changes to recycling or yard-waste policy occurred at this meeting.
