Beaumont ISD students urge more counselors, mentorship and AP rigor in SSLC report

Superintendent Dr. Shannon Allen presented the Student Leadership Council (SSLC) 2025–26 report to the Beaumont ISD Board of Trustees, summarizing students' priorities for wellbeing, safety and academic rigor. The council recommended increased mentorship and monthly mentor input, more counselors on campus and improved lighting and supervision to reduce misconduct.
The SSLC proposed that Advanced Placement teachers demonstrate mastery by achieving a score of 3 or higher on AP exams and urged the district to address academic integrity concerns, including AI misuse, by shifting toward more hands-on learning. The council also asked the district to reduce emphasis on class rankings and to use clearer "You said, we did" communications to show how student feedback leads to action. Dr. Allen received the report and the board accepted the presentation as information.
